1864 Parrott "Umbrella" or "Lip" Time Fuze Adaptor

SOLD

This excavated 1864 period Parrott "umbrella" or "lip" time fuze adaptor is aptly named due to its rounded flange at its top. It would have been used in a ten pounder Parrott shell and according to Peter George, co-author of "Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War", they are much rarer than the earlier standard zinc Parrott time fuze adaptors. The threads are in good condition and will gently screw into a shell that has equally good threads. Constructed of zinc, it measures approximately 1.7 inches in length, approximately 1.3 inches head diameter, approximately 1.1 inches body diameter, and it has 12 threads per inch. It is in good condition and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
