This .58 caliber three-piece Shaler bullet, with its matching dirty white patina, is in low grade condition and was recovered in Culpeper, VA. According to the local digger, all three sections were recovered from the same dig site, but were not found together. Though the sections are all imperfect, it is a complete example of this three piece bullet. The Shaler bullet is one of the most interesting bullets from the Civil War. It is a multi-piece .58 caliber bullet that was invented by Reuben Shaler and patented on August 12, 1862. After it was fired, the three sections would spread apart allowing for more impact points on its designated target. This bullet will be an affordable addition to any Civil War excavated bullet or general relic collection.
