.69 Caliber Garibaldi or Carcano Bullet

SOLD

This excavated .69 caliber Garibaldi bullet is in excellent "dropped" condition and has very nice even white patina. It has a visible mold seam and its skirt is mostly round. What makes this bullet distinctive is that it is shorter than the examples I see in the reference books. The bottom ring is not present and I believe that this is either the result of a flawed casting process or a soldier carving. According to the Dean Thomas reference book, Round Ball to Rimfire, Part Four, on page 236, item No. 562, these bullets were "made at the N.C. Institute for the Deaf & Dumb and the Blind". The bullet measures approximately .698 x .979 inches and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection. Ref. M&M 199
