This cast brass round buckle with iron tang measures approximately 2-1/6 inches in diameter. The brass has a very pleasing mixed green patina. Its tang moves freely and there are no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs. According to the digger's typed label it was recovered from an "old house site Totopotomoy 1969". The Battle of Totopotomoy Creek took place in Hanover County, VA on May 28-30, 1864. These buckles are recovered from Civil War sites and possibly date to the colonial period. Though not a military issue buckle, it will be an excellent early American relic to add to any buckle of general relic collection.
