Item: Confederate 3 Inch Read Shell
Construction: Cast iron with a copper ring sabot showing seven lands and grooves.
Fuzing: Copper fuze plug/adaptor utilizing a paper time fuze.
Approximate size: Weight: 7.2 pounds. Diameter: 2.94 inches. Length: 7 1/2 inches.
Condition: Very good, excavated. The shell is complete with the exception of the base chipping which typical for this model. Its copper fuse adaptor and sabot are present. There are no repairs.
Comments: This Confederate artillery shell will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery, battlefield, or general relic collection.
Recovered: in the area of Fort Harrison east of Richmond, VA.
