Confederate Infantry Coat Button - "Cast I"

SOLD

Backmark: Blank
Construction: Convex, cast brass one-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank present.  The brass now has a dark brown-green patina and, while the surface of this button does show some mild pitting from ground action, it has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Comments: Click on the Fisher's Hill link below for information about the battle where Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan [US] met Lt. Gen. Jubal A. Early [CS] with a combined total of 38,944 troops.  This Confederate infantry coat button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
