Eagle Plate

SOLD

This excavated eagle plate is in decent condition and was recovered in Chancellorsville, VA area. Its brass front, showing an eagle clutching arrows in its right talon and an olive branch in its left, has a brown patina. There is a rust spot on the eagle's neck and upper breast area, but otherwise, it has no cracks or breaks. The stamping of the eagle in the sheet brass is crisp and very well defined. The rear has a complete complement of solder with one rusty iron cross-belt attachment loop still in place. The plate has no bends or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection. Approx. 63 mm.
