Fuzing: Brass percussion fuze
Sabot: Lead band
Condition: Very good, excavated, fired. Both nose and base cup surface are smooth with minimally pitted. Both appear to have been treated with electrolysis and lightly clear-coated. The fuze adaptor is present, but the sabot is missing. The fuze adaptor may be marked with very faint patent markings of "HOTCHKISS / PATENTED / JUNE 17,1862 / FEBRUARY 24, 1863". The shell has been deactivated and there are no repairs.
Recovered: Spotsylvania County, Va area.
Comments: This Hotchkiss shell nose with brass percussion fuze and base cup was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated artillery or general relic collection.
