Federal Sword Belt Plate

Item: Excavated Federal sword belt plate.
Construction: Cast brass with integral motif and tongue.
Condition: Very good. Its brass has a nice chocolate brown patina. This thinly cast plate is flat, with no body curve, and appears to have been straightened at some point. It has no cracks or breaks or other repairs.
Comments: This buckle was acquired direct from the digger and will display very nicely. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle or general relic collection.
Recovered: Cumberland County, VA. According to the digger it was recovered just west of the Farmville Airport along a dirt road taken by Gen Longstreet's reserve artillery.
Approximate size: 52 x 85 mm.
