Item: Federal sword belt plate.
Construction: Cast brass with integral eagle motif and tongue. Nickel-silver wreath applied in three separate pieces. Benchmark "585".
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. Its brass has a very pleasing lightly toned-brass patina. The belt attachment tongue is present and the benchmark number of "585" is clearly stamped in a corner next to the belt attachment bar. This plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Comments: This sword belt plate is one one of the best I have encountered and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Approximate size: 51 x 83 mm.
