Flag Staff Tip

SOLD

This excavated large size flag staff tip is in very good condition and was recovered in the area of Winchester, VA. It is constructed of cast brass which has aged into a dirty brown-green patina. On one side there is a small bit of soil still remaining and a 1/4-1/2 inch area here a bit of white paint was removed. It has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs. A similar example of this rarely excavated tip can be found on page 188 of Stanley Phillips' book "Excavated Artifacts of Battlefields and Campsites of the Civil War 1861-1864" as well as on page 64 of Howard Crouch's book, "Civil War Artifacts". It measures approximately 3 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches. This flag staff tip will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War campsite, battlefield or general relic collection.
