Iron Equipment Buckle in Tree Root

SOLD

This excavated iron buckle was excavated with a tree root that had grown into it.  The buckle measures approximately 1 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches and while the iron and wood are fairly stable, the entire piece should be handled gently.  The entire length, including the root, is 5 7/8 inches.  The accompanying small tag indicates that it was recovered "AREA OF THE 1ST CONN. ARTILLERY AT BERMUDA HUNDRED, VA."  This interesting relic will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery, campsite, or general relic collection.
