Backmark: ". HORSTMANN & ALLIEN . / NY" dm with inner ring of rays.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. Overall brown patina with underlying gilt. There may be a very slight push in the area of the pelican's head, but it's difficult to determine. While the backmark is present, it is difficult to see due to partial ground action. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: From an old home site in the Scottsville area of Albemarle County, VA. Scottsville was part of "Sheridan's Raid" in March of 1865.
