Item: Confederate Brass Firearm Butt Plate - Marked "CS" - Enfield Pattern

Approximate size: See additional images for dimensions.

Comments:   This butt plate's shape and design could lead one to believe that it is for a P-1853 Enfield rifle musket, however, it is smaller in overall size. It has been suggested by knowledgeable Civil War firearm enthusiasts, that it was possibly manufactured by Confederate contractor Cook and Brother. According to "Flayderman's Guide To Antique American Firearms", 9th Edition, page 649, Cook and Brother produced their firearms based on the British Enfield pattern.
