NCO Eagle Plate - Brass Arrow Hooks

SOLD

Item: ExcavatedUS NCO (non-commissioned officer) eagle plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and brass arrow type attachment hooks.
Condition: Good, excavated, solid. Its brass face has an even brown patina with minor wear of the thin brass on the eagle's upper breast and left leg.  The rear solder is solid and all three brass arrow type belt attachment hooks are present.  The front of plate shows signs of being repaired in a couple of areas in the 4 and 7 o'clock positions.  At some point in time, very small spots of white filler were applied in several areas on the rear and its rim, likely to support any loose solder or fill any tiny holes.  Overall this plate is in very good solid shape.  The plate has no cracks, breaks, or major bends.
Comments:  NCO eagle plates are not easy to recover and typically have three iron wire hooks.  Recovering one with arrow hooks is a real rarity. An example of an NCO eagle plate, similar to this one, can be found pictured in Stanley S. Phillip's book "Excavated Artifacts From Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War - Supplement One" on page 31 as item #2 and also in the fourth printing of Stanley S. Phillip's book "Excavated Artifacts From Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" on page 7 as item #4. This example will be an excellent display piece to add to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
