: Raised 5-pointed star in depressed channel (mark of Wildt & Klein, Columbus, SC)
Design:  According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, “The North Carolina seal and coat of arms depict the female figures of "Liberty" and "Plenty". The former holds a liberty pole with her right hand and a scroll inscribed "CONSTITUTION" with her left. "Plenty" grasps a cornucopia in her left hand and wheat with her right." 
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, partial shank present and slightly loose. Pleasing chocolate brown patina with worn state seal details. Fairly strong letters "NORTH CAROLINA". There are no pushes, cracks, or repairs.

Comments: What makes these locally manufactured North Carolina buttons attractive is their crudeness typical of Confederate made war products. This example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
