Post Civil War Military Style Spur

SOLD

This small to medium size non-excavated military style brass spur is in excellent condition and has a nicely aged bronze patina. Its rowel is present but does not move. According to Howard Crouch, author of "Historic American Spurs", these spurs first appear pictured in the "Ordnance Memoranda No. 29" of 1885. A similar example can be found in Crouch's book on page 69, item MS3. On the example offered there appears to be the number "11" stamped on the inside of one of the arms near the strap plate, which, according to Crouch, may be an issue number of some type. This is an very nice example and will make an excellent addition to any 1800's spur collection. Approximate width is 2 7/8 inches and length is 4 3/8 inches. $55.00 or Questions?
