Item: Excavated .56 caliber Sharps rifle bullet.
Condition: Excellent, grey patina.
Comments: Over the years I have regularly handled thousands of various types of Sharps bullets and this is the first time I have had the opportunity to offer this particular type. It is clearly larger than any other Sharps bullets that i have come across. This bullet is listed in the widely used 1980 edition of McKee & Mason's "Civil War Projectile II Small Arms & Field Artillery with Supplement" bullet reference book as item #42 as is described as a .577 caliber Sharps carbine bullet. It is also listed in Dean S. Thomas' 2002 edition of "Round Ball To Rimfire, A History of Small Arms Ammunition, Part Two, Federal Breechloading Carbines & Rifles" as Specimen 484 as a .56 caliber Sharps rifle bullet. I have decided to list this bullet using Thomas's more recently updated findings.
