Colonial Period Shoe Buckle

SOLD

This Colonial cast brass oval shoe buckle, with its ornate floral and interwoven chain-like design, measures approximately 2 x 2-1/2 inches. The brass has a very pleasing mixed green patina. Unfortunately, time has taken a toll on the original interior iron crossbar and tangs as they have rusted into a state of disrepair. While the remaining broken pieces are present, they are no longer attached. These remnants will be included. According to the digger's typed label the buckle was recovered at the North Anna River in December of 1994. Though not a military issue buckle, it will be an excellent early American relic to add to any buckle of general relic collection.
