US Cartridge Box Plate - Marked "W H. SMITH BROOKLYN"

Item: ExcavatedUS cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Fair, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has primarily a light green patina, along with a few freeze cracks and rusts spots.  The rear has nearly all of its solder which is lightly stamped with the manufacturer's mark of "W. H. SMITH BROOKLYN".  Its iron attachment loops are no longer present and there is some bending in the areas of the rim.  There are no repairs.
Comments:  This marked cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Orange County, VA. in the area of Wilderness.
Approximate size: 53 x 87 mm.
