Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron wire loops.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, both attachment loops present. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a dull brass patina with only a few tiny dings likely from period use. It appears that the brass was gently cleaned at some point. The rear has a near complete complement of solder with very minor chipping in one area of the rim edge. Both loops are present, complete and stable, with one straight-up and the other partially bent. There are no cracks, breaks, repairs, or other bends.
Comments: This box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Petersburg, VA.
Approximate size: 53 x 85 mm.
