US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: ExcavatedUS cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron wire loops.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has an even chocolate brown patina with a small amount of hard white specks in the upper area of the "US", likely as a result of ground action. The rear has nearly all of its solder with moderate pitting and surface flaking. There is minor bending in the body of the plate and one of its two iron attachment loops is still present and is straight up.
Comments: This cartridge box plate, with its tall letters "ÜS", will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Cedar Creek, VA.
Approximate size: 57 x 89 mm.
