US Cartridge Box Plate

SOLD

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good. Its brass front has a very nice chocolate brown patina and shows the large thick raised letters "US" with each letter having built-up rust areas.  This build-up of rust is likely a result of ground action coupled with the embedded rear iron attachment bar rusting through the sheet brass.  The letter "S" has small hole in its upper left edge.  The rear has nearly all of its solder, with minor surface flaking, and its two iron attachment loops are no longer present.
Comments:  This cartridge box plate from way down south in Louisiana will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Port Hudson, LA
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
