US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron wire loops.
Condition: Rough, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a brown patina with some soil remaining. Much of the rim missing and there are major cracks, breaks, and bends. The rear still retains much of its solder with one of the two loops still present and complete. The plate has not been repaired.
Comments: This US cartridge box plate is clearly in rough shape and was likely recovered from a farm field. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
