US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Fair. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a few freeze cracks with a brown patina with areas of lighter discoloration from ground action. The rear has most of its solder but is missing portions in areas of its rim. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present and there is some bending in the areas of the rim.
Recovered: Culpeper, VA
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
