US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill and iron wire loops.
Condition: Fair. Its brass front, with the tall raised letters "US", has a few freeze cracks and a brown patina with some light colored soil remaining. A 1 1/8 inch section of the rim is missing. The rear has most of its solder but is missing portions in areas of its rim along with additional solder cracking and flaking in other areas. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present. The plate's body is slightly concave and there are no indications of any repairs.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.

Approximate size: 56 x 87 mm.
