US Cartridge Box Plate - Jericho Mill, VA

SOLD

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass and solder filled.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with raised letters "US", has areas of yellow soil covering a dark green patina with smaller areas of light green coloring.  While there is a very tiny break in the rim at the 8 o'clock position, the face of the plate has no cracks, repairs or other breaks. The rear has nearly all of its solder with some loss at one end.  One of the two iron attachment loops remains and, while rusty, thin, and fragile, it is complete.  The plate does have a few dings in the rim and a wave in the body as is visible in the additional images to the left of this description.
Recovered: Jericho Mill, VA
Approximate size:  56 x 87 mm.
Comments:  The display case and its label will be included with the plate. This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
