US Infantry "Hunting Horn" Hat Insignia

SOLD

This excavated brass infantry hunting horn hat insignia is in very good condition and was recovered from Stephenson's Depot, VA.  It is constructed of thin sheet brass which has aged into a very pleasing brown patina. There are two very tiny breaks and minor bending where the mouthpiece section of the device meets the main circular section of the horn and I am of the opinion that the mouthpiece section was bent when recovered and subsequently re-bent back into its original position.  I have included two images showing the front and rear of this area.  The rear of the device shows the remnants of the solder that once held the now missing two wire attachment loops.  The device has no cracks, major bends, other breaks or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War insignia or general relic collection.  Approximately 1 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches.
