US Naval Fuze Dated 1862

This US Naval water-cap fuze dated 1862, with its accompanying old tag, is in excellent condition. Though missing its bushing, the water-cap is present and clearly stamped on the top of the fuze is "ÖRD . D . 1862". It has a dark brown patina and its threads are in very good condition. It measures approximately 2.43 inches in length and its head diameter is 1.25 inches. An example of this type fuze is pictured and described in the artillery fuze reference book "Artillery Fuses of the Civil War" by Charles H. Jones, on page 10. This Naval fuze will be an excellent addition to any Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
