Comments: According to Charles H. Jones' author of "Artillery Fuses of the Civil War", "Hotchkiss produced a version of the two-piece "West Point" percussion fuse for naval and field projectiles." This slider is the type that used a percussion wafer to ignite the bursting charge. A similar example can be found in the above mentioned reference book on he upper portion of page 92. This slider will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
