Item: 12 Pounder Exploded Cannonball Half Shell
Construction: Cast iron.
Fuzing: Bormann time fuze (not present).
Approximate size: Weight: 3.8 pounds. Diameter: 4.5 inches.
Condition: Good, excavated, with no repairs. The iron is stable and appears to have been treated with electrolysis so as to preserve it. The threads visible just below the fuze hole would have held the Bormann fuze underplug.
Recovered: Chancellorsville, VA area.
Comments: This shell is from the Joseph "Abe" Leisch, Jr. collection and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
