Item: .58 Caliber US Model 1855 Socket Bayonet
Construction: Iron
Condition: Very good, excavated, solid. Its overall iron surface has rust build-up and pitting, and was very lightly clear coated long ago. The locking ring with screw, are present and fixed in place. There are no bends, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Augusta, GA area.
Approximate size: 21 inches overall length; 3 inch socket length.
Comments: This bayonet was also in use with the US model 1861 & 1863 rifle/musket. It is a great looking example and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bayonet, weapon, or general relic collection.
