Item: Excavated .58 Caliber US Model 1855 Bayonet - Wilderness, VA Area
Construction: Steel
Condition: Very good, excavated. Moderate ground action but solidly intact. The locking ring including screw are present and are fixed to the socket. There are no bends or repairs.  
Recovered:  Wilderness, VA area in 1962 by Virginia relic hunter Joe Leisch. 
Approximate size: 21 inches overall length with a 3 inch socket.
Comments:  This bayonet pattern was designed to fit the U.S. military rifles of the 1855, 1861 and 1863 patterns by Springfield or the muskets made by the contract makers. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bayonet, edged weapon, or general relic collection.
