"USA" Intertwined Bridle Rosette

SOLD

This excavated rosette, with the raised and intertwined letters "USA", is in very good condition. It was acquired directly from the digger and was recovered from Spotsylvania Court House, VA. The device measures approximately 1 7/8 inches in diameter and its brass face has an awesome even chocolate brown patina. An example of this type of rosette can be found in Howard Crouch's book "Civil War Artifacts" on page 133, item #1 and Crouch writes that there is some indication that rosettes of this type saw artillery usage. The rear is solder filled and its attachment bar is missing. There are no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War cavalry or general relic collection.
