Bullet in Wood

SOLD

This excavated bullet in wood was recovered from a Civil War site in the Richmond, VA area. The bullet has a grey-white patina. Interestingly, a small portion of the wood extends from inside the bullet’s cavity indicating that the plant growth completely enveloped the bullet. The wood section measures approximately 1-1/2 x 7/8 inches. A glass top display case, measuring 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 x 3/4 inches, will be included at no additional charge.

Similar examples of "bullets in wood" can be found the following reference books:

  • "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War" by Stanley S. Phillip, page 190.
  • "Civil War Artifacts of the Western Campaigns" by Charles S. Harris, page 195.

See scans of the above pages in the additional images.

This bullet in wood will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet, battlefield, or general relic collection.
