Item: Burnside Carbine Cartridge - Excavated
Caliber: .54
Construction: Conical lead bullet with brass cartridge.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, solid. The bullet has a tan-brown patina. The surface of the cartridge has a mossy green patina with only a few very small dents. The ignition flame hole in its base is visible. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It is not a "put-together". 
Recovered: Culpeper County, VA area.
Approximate size: 2.34 inch length; 385 grains weight.

Comments: Today, diggers are not likely to recover cartridges in this condition. If gently shaken, one can hear the contents inside. If you want a complete quality excavated example then this cartridge will be an excellent addition to any Civil War cartridge, bullet, or general relic collection.
