This excavated .54 caliber Burnside cartridge case and bullet are both in good condition. Both were recovered in the Fredericksburg, VA area but not from the same exact location. The case has a very pleasing brown-green patina. There is a tiny hole and a couple of tiny fractures in the top rim. The rest of the cartridge is in good solid condition. The Burnside bullet has a grey patina and a flat base. It measures .564 inches in diameter and .799 inches in length. Due to very light surface build-up on the bullet's base, along with a slightly out-of-round cartridge opening, the bullet will not fit into the cartridge case opening.
