Carbine Sling Swivel Hook - Triple Marked

SOLD

Item: Carbine Sling Swivel Hook - Triple Marked
Use: These devices were attached at one end to a leather sling and hooked to the cavalry trooper's rifle at the other end. This allowed the trooper to raise, fire, and release their carbine without losing possession of it.
Construction:
 Iron.
Condition:
Excellent, operable. The device has a smooth even brown patina and still functions in all manners. It is manufacturer stamped on the inside of the snap hook portion with "O. B. NORTH & Co / NEW HAVEN - Ct". It is also inspector stamped "T. J. SHEPARD", and "US" on the underside of the roller support frame. The device has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Approximate size: 8-5/8 inches overall length; 2-1/2 inch width opening for sling.

Comments:  Not all carbine swivel hooks are triple marked, however this one is. This carbine sling swivel hook will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War cavalry, carbine buckle, carbine rifle, or general relic collection.
