Item: Confederate Artillery Coat Button - Front Only
Backmark: Blank
Description: Roman "A" on a plain field.
Construction: Low convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Fair, excavated, shank and approximately 3/4 of the back are missing. The button has not been cleaned as the digger did not want to wash the encased soil from the rear. Its still soil covered front has what may be a base green brown patina with no visible pushes, cracks, or repairs.
Recovered: Augusta, GA area.
Reference: Tice: CSA243A1 Albert: CS 117
Comments: What I appreciate most about this button is its excavated ghostly appearance. This Confederate artillery button will be an excellent display piece and addition to any excavated Civil War button, artillery, or general relic collection.
