Construction: Convex, solid cast brass, one-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm
Condition: Excellent, excavated, shank present. This button has a very pleasing rich green patina and is complete with no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.

Comments: For several reasons, these buttons are one of my favorite relics of the Civil War. Its simplicity in design, its weight, and manufacturing crudeness, make a very attractive and thoroughly Confederate produced and used button. What I find most appealing about this particular example is that the "I" appears to be off-center which confirms the crudeness in production aspect. This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
