Confederate Spur - Actual Spur Pictured in "American Spurs"

SOLD

This excavated large Confederate spur is one of my favorites as its crudeness reeks of Confederate manufacture. It is the actual example pictured in Howard R. Crouch's "American Spurs" reference book, published 1998, on page 63, CS 25. Crouch notes that it is "a rather unusual hybrid of a "Brandy" style body and a "Richmond" neck". Constructed of brass an iron, it is complete with an overall brown patina. Along the strap arms extending from its neck are small hammer marks where it appears that it was slightly re-shaped to fit a square heel. Its iron rowel is present and freely spins. An image of the page from the above mentioned book, showing this spur and its description, is included in the additional images. It measures approximately 3-3/8 x 5-1/4 inches. The spur has no cracks, breaks, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War spur, cavalry, or general relic collection.
