Confederate Ten Dollar Note

This original Confederate ten dollar note is in good condition. It is dated February 17, 1864, hand numbered, and signed. These notes were engraved by Keatinge & Ball of Columbia S.C. and printed by Evans & Cogswell. The front of the note shows the horses pulling cannon. The lower right hand corner is the likeness of Robert Hunter (1809-1887) who served as a CS Senator from Virginia and briefly as Confederate Secretary of State. Prior to the war he was a US Congressman and Senator from Virginia. Click on the preceding Robert Hunter link to read more about him and his contributions. The rear shows a large "TEN" with four circular medallions with the numeral "10" at the corners on blue ink. The note is crisp with a nice pink color on its obverse with blue on its reverse. It does have areas of minimal discoloration, creasing, incomplete and uneven borders. It will come in a sturdy clear acid free sleeve for preservation and display and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War note or general relic collection. Ref. Criswell T-68.
