Item: Confederate Time Fuze Adaptor for Spherical Projectile
Construction: Cast copper.
Use: To support a paper time fuze and to form a tight seal. The two spanner holes, visible on the top of the adaptor and to either side of the center hole, accommodated a wrench used to screw the device into the shell. Once the adaptor was in place, a paper time fuze, would be inserted into the center hole.
Approximate size: Head diameter: 1.23 inches. Length: 1.43 inches.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its surface has a predominantly green patina. A portion of its paper time fuse is still visibly lodged in place. The threads appear to be in good condition and, with some gentle cleaning, would likely screw into a shell. There are no cracks, breaks, dents, or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown

Comments: This Confederate fuze adaptor for spherical projectile will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
