County of Augusta, Virginia Fifty Cent Note - 1862

SOLD

This original Confederate County of Augusta Fifty Cents note is in fair condition and is dated "Staunton, Virginia May 25, 1862.".  Printed on the note is "THE COUNTY OF AUGUSTA, / Will pay to bearer FIFTY CENTS, / In Bankable Currency, when presented in sums of Five Dollars. / By Order of Court; / FIFTY CENTS / RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF ALL COUNTY DUES.". Interestingly, the note appears to have not been numbered. The rear is blank. The paper is soft with complete borders with the exception of damaged edge areas. The note has discoloration, creases, edge wear, and several pinholes. It will come in a clear acid free envelope for preservation and display and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War note or general relic collection.
