Description: The device shows a symmetrical eagle, with upraised wing and an "I" shield on its breast. 
Construction: High convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, shank present with bit of thread attached. A very tiny pinhole is present int he eagle's right knee which may actually be a manufacturing flaw. This button, with its brown patina, has partial gilt in the area around the eagle and its shield. It has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: During the 1970s from the Petersburg, VA area.

Comments: This very handsome Federal Infantry button was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
