Item: Federal "Jeff Davis" Hat Insignia
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass.
Condition: Good, excavated, one attachment loop is present, the other is missing. The brass has aged into a dark patina with hints of copper coloring. There are four or five very tiny pinholes visible when held up to a light. The eagle's right talon holding the olive branch is missing and there is a very slight inward bend in the lower portion of the device. There are no repairs.
Approximate size: 1-14/16 x 2-1/2 inch.
Recovered: Brandy Station, Culpeper County, VA.
