Item: Federal "Jeff Davis" Hat Insignia
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass.
Condition: Fair, excavated, attachment loops missing. The brass has aged into a brown patina. According to the record kept by the digger, the device was recovered in three pieces. The pieces were reconnected using a clear adhesive presummably by the digger. A center portion of the clouds and rays, along with the eagle's left wing tip, are missing. On the rear is the digger's reference number in black ink over what is believed to be "white-out".
Approximate size: 1-13/16 x 2-3/8 inch.
Recovered: in the area of Harrison's Landing, Charles City County, VA.
