Hand Forged Blacksmith Tongs

SOLD

These hand forged blacksmith tongs measure approximately 15-1/2 inches in length and are in very good condition. These were likely used by a blacksmith to grasp red hot iron that he would hammer to form a horse shoe and other items. Both the U.S. Federal and Confederate armies employed blacksmiths to shoe horses and repair equipment such as wagons, horse tack, and artillery equipment. These smiths primarily worked at a traveling forge that when combined with a limber, comprised wagons specifically designed and constructed as blacksmith shops on wheels to carry the essential equipment necessary for their work. They will be an excellent addition to any campsite or general relic collection.
