Handmade Clay Jug & Marble

This handmade clay jug and marble were included in a collection of recently acquired excavated Civil War relics. Many of the items were more typical military campsite type relics such as pocket knives, pack hooks, utensils, etc... I cannot say definitively what period they are from or what purpose they served, perhaps they were simply soldier artwork. The jug measures .45 x .80 inches. The out-of-round marble measures .76 inches in diameter at its widest point. Both pieces are in very good condition and have an adobe-orange patina. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs and the pair will be an excellent addition to any excavated relic collection.
