SOLD

This excavated ID disk belonged to Isaac H. Himes of Richmond, VT. It was acquired directly from the digger who recovered it on February 19, 2017 on a farm in Charlestown, WV where approximately 4,000 troops camped from late 1864 until April 1865. The tag is in very good condition with ample gilt remaining on the obverse which states "WAR FOR THE UNION / 1862". The reverse has the following in raised letters: "I. H. HIMES / Co . I / 8 REG / t V". According to additional information found in the American Civil War Database, Himes was born December 22, 1832 in Belmont, New York. On November 27, 1861, at 29 years of age, he enlisted as a private and on February 18, 1862 he mustered into "I" Company of the Vermont 8th Infantry. On June 28, 1865 he was mustered out at Washington, DC. After the war he lived in Three Rivers, MI. and eventually passed away on August 14, 1900. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers.
